The Maine coast is a magical place, providing some of the most interesting boating grounds anywhere. Designed for year round use, the house is solar efficient— making maximum use of the sun—but also turns its back on the harsh winter.
There is a sense of discovery upon first arriving at a courtyard with few windows. Once through the front door, the interior spaces burst into spectacular views. The living room provides generous entertaining space, and is connected to a semicircular deck, which leads out to the view. The house is made up of three separate elements that feel comfortable with the character of the area. The large central fireplace provides heat for the living room and study, with a curved south wall.
The master bedroom and guest accommodations are separate, as is the studio for the cartoonist owner.
