At the start of our thinking, the availability of land zoned for veterinary use in this town was virtually non-existent. We were able to persuade the Planning and Zoning Commission that we could adapt two structures of historic value to the town for this purpose. The veterinary practice was well established, so it was important to stay here. By being able to utilize these two buildings, we were able to preserve a part of history of the town, which is encouraged here. As well, it helps to put us into "adaptive use" and into the category of "green," as we recycle these buildings.
Approval gave us the setbacks necessary to make this site work. We developed the program for this hospital after extensive dialog with Dr. Nick Sitinas and Dr. Stacy Robertson to accommodate present and future needs.
